Following ten years service with The Royal Air Force, our founder Gavin Neate commenced an 18 year career with Guide Dogs as a guide dog mobility instructor. His comprehensive knowledge of visual impairment and routine experience of unsafe and poorly installed pedestrian crossings led him to design a system by which the blind, visually impaired and other pedestrians living with reduced mobility could interact with the environment around them through their smart technology.
This has led to an ever-widening scope for alternative smart phone applications utilising proximity aware technology. At this time Neatebox is concentrating on the areas of which it has personal experience but the company is seeking further projects as challenges are identified by experts in other fields.
Digital technology is the way forward just as mechanical technology has been in the past. “ The Solution Starts with the People who Understand the Problem”.
Or, at least it would be if when we impliment it’s potential we do so from the position of knowledge of the problem it solves. Throwing technology at a problem results in confusion and clutter in which the end user becomes unsure and ultimately refuses to engage.
Know your problem.
I have spent 18 years observing the challenges faced by people with poor or no sight. I am not blind but I have been as close to the problem as possible without living it. This has led directly to my work with technology in order to find a solution and underpins my companies ethos.
