Following ten years service with The Royal Air Force, our founder Gavin Neate commenced an 18 year career with Guide Dogs as a guide dog mobility instructor. His comprehensive knowledge of visual impairment and routine experience of unsafe and poorly installed pedestrian crossings led him to design a system by which the blind, visually impaired and other pedestrians living with reduced mobility could interact with the environment around them through their smart technology.
This has led to an ever-widening scope for alternative smart phone applications utilising proximity aware technology. At this time Neatebox is concentrating on the areas of which it has personal experience but the company is seeking further projects as challenges are identified by experts in other fields.
Digital technology is the way forward just as mechanical technology has been in the past. “ The Solution Starts with the People who Understand the Problem”.
Or, at least it would be if when we impliment it’s potential we do so from the position of knowledge of the problem it solves. Throwing technology at a problem results in confusion and clutter in which the end user becomes unsure and ultimately refuses to engage.
Know your problem.
I have spent 18 years observing the challenges faced by people with poor or no sight. I am not blind but I have been as close to the problem as possible without living it. This has led directly to my work with technology in order to find a solution and underpins my companies ethos.
“The solution starts with the people who know the problem.”
Neatebox utilises advanced Proximity aware technology to communicate with mobile devices and positively enhances the users experience of a given application.
Magic app great tool for visitors and locals alike and easy to use
Really interesting app, technology is terrific and the stories are fascinating. Excellent way to tour the Royal Mile and learn about the history without paying some lunatic in fancy dress.

Welcome to Neatebox and thanks for your interest in our work. A brief glance over our product range might give the impression that there is a lot of space between them and the markets at which they are aimed. Further investigation will reveal what we at Neatebox have known for some time
That we are living in a period of time in which we can reach more people than ever before with technological solutions and that we are both duty bound and commercially compelled to understand all of our clients’ needs in their design and provision.
There is no longer a need to feel that specific groups of people require specialist hardware but more that those who are providing the service must have a wider knowledge of their customers than ever before to ensure that every solution meets every need.
We trust that in time where we and others like us are highlighting this change that others will follow.
